Apple’s answer to ChatGPT? 🤖 

Apple has recently introduced a set of multimodal large language models (MLLMs) known as MM1. Here are the details:

• MM1 stands for Methods, Analysis & Insights from Multimodal LLM Pre-training 🤔 
  

• It’s a family of multimodal models with up to 30 billion parameters 📈 
  

• These models combine both text and image information, blurring the lines between visual and textual understanding ✅ 
  

• The researchers behind MM1 studied into various architecture components, including the image encoder and the vision-language connector. They found that a mix of image-caption, interleaved image-text, and text-only data was crucial for achieving state-of-the-art few-shot results.
  
  

  

  
  

  These new AI models can be a huge step for Apple in the AI race, maybe even rivalling ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot 👊 

Apples latest AI acquisition 🍎 

Apple has made a strategic move by acquiring DarwinAI, a Canada-based AI startup that specializes in vision-based technology for improving manufacturing efficiency 📈 

Although the deal hasn’t been officially announced, several members of the DarwinAI team have already joined Apple’s machine learning teams in January, as indicated by their LinkedIn profiles 👔 

DarwinAI’s expertise lies in visually inspecting components during the manufacturing process, which aligns well with Apple’s focus on enhancing its AI capabilities 🤖 

Notably, DarwinAI also employs techniques to make AI models smaller and faster, which could be beneficial for on-device generative AI features. Apple aims to introduce these features in iOS 18 later this year, catching up with competitors like OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Microsoft ✅ 

Mercedes’ AI manufacturing bots 🤖 

Mercedes-Benz has collaborated with Apptronik, to introduce Apollo humanoid robots into their manufacturing facilities. These advanced robots are designed to perform low-skill, repetitive tasks that can be physically challenging for human workers 👷 

This partnership marks Apptronik’s first publicly announced commercial deployment of Apollo humanoid robots 🤖
