Microsoft Copilot can now create music 🎶

Microsoft Copilot, has now been integrated with Suno, a music creation tool, to enable users to generate music. This feature is part of a series of innovations across Microsoft Copilot, which coordinates large language models (LLMs), content in Microsoft Graph, and the Microsoft 365 apps 🤝 

Users can now enter prompts into Copilot like “Create a pop song about adventures with your family” and have Suno, via a plugin, bring their musical ideas to life. From a single sentence, Suno can generate complete songs — including lyrics, instrumentals and singing voices 🎤 

Copilot users can access the Suno integration by launching Microsoft Edge, logging in with their Microsoft account and enabling the Suno plugin or clicking on the Suno logo that says “Make music with Suno.” 🎵 

This integration represents a significant step forward in the use of AI in music creation, opening up new possibilities.

Bill Gate’s big prediction for 2024 🤖 

In his “The Year Ahead 2024” post, Bill Gates discussed the impact of AI, and also shared his predictions for 2024. He compared the development of AI to the creation of the microprocessor, personal computer, internet, and mobile phone. He also believes AI will transform how people work, learn, travel, receive healthcare, and communicate 🧑‍⚕️ 

He also predicted that AI will not only increase productivity but also help reduce global inequities. Gates is particularly interested in how AI can help reduce child mortality, which he describes as the world’s worst inequity 📉 

Gates also said that he’s excited about the potential of AI in the next five to ten years. He believes that businesses will distinguish themselves by how well they use AI, and entire industries will reorient around it 🏢 

Airbnb’s big plan to stop unauthorized parties 🕵️ 

Airbnb has announced that it will be using AI to help prevent unauthorized parties, especially during New Year’s Eve. This decision comes as part of Airbnb’s global crackdown on such parties 🎉 

The AI software will look for potential red flags such as how recently an account was created, whether the user is trying to rent a property in the same town or city where they live, and the duration of the stay. Bookings for one night only, especially during revelry-heavy periods like New Year’s Eve, are also considered potential concerns ❌ 

If the AI deems the risk of a party booking too high, it will prevent the booking or guide the person to the website of one of Airbnb’s partner hotel companies ✅ 

OpenAI expands it’s safety team 🔐

OpenAI has recently expanded its safety team. This expansion is part of OpenAI’s internal safety processes to prevent the threat of harmful AI. A new “safety advisory group” will sit above the technical teams and make recommendations to leadership. The board has also been granted veto power.

OpenAI has three separate groups overseeing AI safety:

1. Safety Systems: This team looks at current products such as GPT-4 🤖 

2. Preparedness: This team tracks, evaluates, forecasts, and protects potential catastrophic risks stemming from AI ⛈️ 

3. Superalignment: This team focuses on extremely powerful — and hypothetical — AI systems that may exist in the future ⌛️ 

The main purpose of these updates appears to be to show a clear path for identifying, analyzing, and deciding what to do about “catastrophic” risks inherent to models they are developing 🤖
