EU is restricting AI? 🤖 

The European Union (EU) has passed an agreement on how to regulate AI, making it the first continent to do so. This legislation includes safeguards on the use of AI within the EU, with clear guardrails on its adoption by law enforcement agencies. It also empowers consumers to launch complaints against any perceived violations ✅ 

The proposed Artificial Intelligence Act classifies AI systems by risk and mandates various development and use requirements. The Act also includes a ban on the use of AI technology in biometric surveillance and requires generative AI systems like ChatGPT to disclose AI-generated content 📃 

However, more than 150 executives from European companies have expressed concerns that the draft legislation could impact Europe’s competitiveness and technological sovereignty. Despite these concerns, the Act represents a significant step towards establishing a legal framework for the development and use of AI. It aims to ensure that AI in Europe respects values and rules, and harnesses the potential of AI for industrial use ♾️ 

Grok is FINALLY here 🤖 

Grok, the ChatGPT competitor developed by xAI, Elon Musk’s AI startup, has officially been launched on X ✅ 

Grok began rolling out to X Premium Plus subscribers in the U.S., that costs $16 per month for ad-free access to the social network. Longtime subscribers will get priority access to Grok, X said, with the rollout expected to wrap up in the next week 📆 

Grok is modelled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, designed to answer almost anything and even suggest what questions to ask. One of the defining features of Grok is its ability to pull in real-time information. It not only provides updates on current events with a touch of humor but also demonstrates a sharp, satirical tone in its interactions 🤖 

Pi launches app on Android 📱 

The Pi chatbot app, developed by Inflection AI, is now available for Android users. Pi is designed to be a kind and supportive companion, offering conversations, friendly advice, and concise information in a natural, flowing style 🙍 

The app aims to provide a unique conversational experience, with the chatbot capable of understanding and responding to a wide range of topics. However, it’s worth noting that Pi cannot generate code or essays. This limitation is in place to ensure the chatbot remains focused on providing supportive and engaging conversations to users ✅ 

The latest version of the app, Pi Bot - Ai Chat Bot, can be downloaded from the app store 🛒 

Google faked the Gemini demo⁉️ 

Google’s much-anticipated AI model, Gemini, which was released last week has found itself in the middle of controversy due to a demo video that was found to be edited 🤔 

The video, which was meant to showcase Gemini’s capabilities, has been criticized for misleading the audience. Google has admitted to these edits, raising concerns about the readiness of Gemini AI for public use 🤖 

According to a report - Google said 👇️ 

“We created the demo by capturing footage in order to test Gemini’s capabilities on a wide range of challenges. Then we prompted Gemini using still image frames from the footage, and prompting via text.”

So although Gemini might do the things Google shows in the video, it didn’t, and maybe couldn’t in the way they implied. In actuality, it was a series of carefully tuned text prompts with still images, clearly selected and shortened to misrepresent what the interaction is actually like 😕 

Google’s new app “NotebookLM” is available in the US 🕶️ 

Google’s AI-assisted note-taking app, NotebookLM, is now open to users in the United States who are at least 18 years old ✍️ 

The app was introduced as an experimental AI-first notebook at Google I/O earlier this year. It’s designed to help users gain insights faster by summarizing facts, explaining complex ideas, and brainstorming new connections based on the sources you select 📖 

Some other key features of NotebookLM2 include source-grounding, summary generation, question-answering and idea generation 💡 

The app is currently only available for Google Docs. Google plans to refine the product and make it more helpful based on user feedback 🗣️
