THE OPENAI CHAOS

Sam Altman joins Microsoft 🏢

Altman and Brockman to head up a “new advanced AI research team” in Microsoft.

This has been a crazy weekend for OpenAI and the whole AI community in general 🎢

From OpenAI’s former CEO Sam Altman being fired to talks of him coming back ◀️

Here is the full timeline of what has happened so far 👇️

  • On November 17, 2023, the board of OpenAI, the startup behind ChatGPT, fired the company’s CEO, Sam Altman.

They cited a "lack of confidence" and not being consistently candid in communications as the reason for his removal.

  • The OpenAI board announced that Altman would be replaced by Mira Murati, OpenAI’s CTO, on a temporary basis.

  • Shortly after the news broke out, Sam Altman put out a tweet the next day confirming he got fired.

  • Later that same day, Greg Brockman, the President of OpenAI, resigned from his position through a tweet ✖️

And not only that, 3 senior OpenAI researchers also resigned after Brockman, including the director of research Jakub Pachocki and head of preparedness Aleksander Madry.

  • On November 19, the most important investor of OpenAI - Microsoft, furious at the turn of events, reportedly exerted pressure on OpenAI’s board to resign and reinstate Altman.

  • The board didn't meet a 5 PM PT deadline on Sunday, and as a result, several OpenAI employees were considering resigning.

  • Satya, Microsoft's CEO, took charge of the negotiations.

As a result, few hours later the board agreed to step down, but postponed talks until a replacement was found.

  • On the following day, November 20th, Ilya Sutskever, and OpenAI Co-Founder, confirmed Sam Altman is NOT coming back as CEO of OpenAI.

  • The board found a new interim replacement for Sam Altman. The new CEO of OpenAI is now Emmett Shear, former CEO of Twitch.

  • In an unexpected turn of events, Satya, through his X account announced that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will be joining Microsoft to create a brand new AI research team 🤝

  • Nadella said Altman and Brockman will be joined by “colleagues,” suggesting that Microsoft is also hiring many other people who left OpenAI over the weekend.

This was the most recent update on everything that transpired with OpenAI and Microsoft lately 🤔

But more events might follow as time passes 🕰️

PROMPT GUIDE

The perfect ChatGPT prompt formula 🧬

Prompting on ChatGPT is not as easy as it seems

Here are 5 main principles to keep in mind when you write your prompts 🧠

Let’s go ⬇️

  1. Be Clear - Make sure your instructions are easy to understand. Don’t provide too many tasks at once.

  2. Keep it Specific - Get straight to the point. Always ask yourself if the information is relevant to what you’re trying to achieve.

  3. Give (enough) context - Help the model understand the situation better by providing some relevant background info

  4. “I want you to be” - Give ChatGPT a persona. Clearly state what you want the model to behave as, preferably a professional in the desired sector.

  5. Consistency/Continuous Learning: If the initial response from doesn’t quite meet your expectations, don’t hesitate to iterate and refine the response. Remember that ChatGPT is made to give creative inspiration, not generate an entire project.

My first prompt attempt without using these principles 👇

Pretty basic and generic

Now, here’s an improved prompt which incorporates the principles mentioned above (feel free to copy it) 👇️

The highlighted portions correspond to each principle 🧬

The result 👇️

The difference in response quality is massive 📈

Also, don’t forget to use the last principle if you want to ask a follow up question while keeping the context unchanged 🤝

Don’t hesitate to iterate or follow up with the last response ⌨️

Apply these principles to your next prompt and see the difference yourself 📈

Google delaying its ChatGPT alternative? 👀

Google has delayed the release of its AI-powered service, Gemini - a collection of large-language models that can power chatbots, generate original text, and help engineers write code 👨‍💻

Gemini is Google’s competitor to OpenAI’s flagship models. It was expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2024.

However, the release of Gemini has been postponed to the first quarter of the next year.

The delay might be because Google doesn’t wish to replicate the hurried release of Bard, which fell short of expectations 📉
